  • Innovative Leisure x Boiler Room LA015 party

This Tuesday night we were fortunate enough to be invited up to the Innovative Leisure (IL) Records compound for a Boiler Room TV party that was showcased live to the world via the world wide web. The party, which featured such Turntablists as: Gossamer, Low Limit, Classixx, D-Tiberio and headliner Nosaj Thing was pretty epic to say the least, and even featured a kick off set by label boss Jamie Strong himself that was dope! However, the true highlight for us may have very well been the mysterious band known as RHYE, who just as Nosaj finished his set and everybody thought the show was over proceeded to kick things off in a grand fashion as the whole audience literally did a 180 degree turn to focus their attention on the beautiful sounding vocals, keyboard, violin and cello now coming from the opposite side of the warehouse. Luckily for those in the back who were now automatically in the front by default. Anyhow, if you aren't familiar with any of these artists or IL/Boiler Room in general then we suggest you do some research!

Label head honcho Jamie Strong kicking it off.

    Followed up by Gossamer.

By this time the place was packed!

Low Limit (above) and Classixx (below) lit it up!

At some point Nosaj had to take the controls!

The awful moment when you realize the beer is gone...

It's all good though because RYHE killed it!

Nobody ever gives props to the sound guys...but...nice work! Until next time...

  • Old roomies 12th Planet x Skrillex reunite for surprise performance in Hollywood

Last Friday night we headed to the Avalon in Hollywood to say whattup to our boy 12th Planet for the Control party. Although we were thoroughly impressed by his opening act DJ AC Slater and the vibe of the show itself, fittingly, nothing could top his old couch-mate Skrillex rolling through to help put on a surprise performance. Seriously a surprise for the ages this one will surely go down in the record books. What follows are some snippets from the evening...enjoy...

The lines get longer and longer, but the Avalon stays the same age...

CRNKN was lighting it up as we rocked in.

Then came AC Slater who was pretty dope actually. Bass was thumpin'...

The alleyway at the Avalon...fire hazard galore.

Teddybear, bodyguard, manager, friend and business associate...the ever consumate Danny United.

12th showing off some off his new party favors pre-set.

The tactician goes to work. 12th Planet.

Girls Gone Wild for 12th Planet!!

These were the best visuals ever...and we mean ever!!! Big Perm!

    Smoking 'em out Avalon style.

12th is seriously one of the best performers, always so energetic its no wonder the crowd loves him so much.

Hey, Skrillex, you ready down there? Let's drop a hammer on these fools! Continue reading

  • Mike Mo and BATB6

Well, it's that time of the year again. The month when the boys at The Berrics get together to decide what this years "Battle at the Berrics 6" field is gonna look like-which is of course for those of you who don't know the sport of Skateboarding's ultimate flatland contest...where every year the winner cements himself amongst wizardry status. Anyhow, before we start talking too much about hobbits and wizards we wanted to let you know that our man, Mike Mo Capaldi, (of course) has been chosen to represent "Team Regular" in what is sure to be one hell of a fight against "Team Goofy" as Skateboarding decides what dominant foot they wanna put forward. We're practically done talking now so why don't you just head over to The Berrics yourself and watch Mike Mo and Austyn Gillete get this war started!

Mo keeping it mellow in the early letters with a 360 flip-dude can do these things in his sleep.

*Also, stay tuned right here throughout the season as we continue to keep you updated on Mo's progress. I'm sure you recall last year when he went all the way to the championship and narrowly lost to PJ Ladd...well, this year, we can only imagine how hungry he is...

  • HEX at "The Grand Olympic: The photography of Theo Ehret" event presented by 722 Figueroa

Theo Ehret was the house photographer at the Los Angeles Olympic Auditorium in its heyday, and he captured many of the the great boxers and wrestlers of that time: including Muhammad Ali, George Foreman, Andre the Giant, Mil Mascaras, and many of the emerging Latino fighters of his era. So, when our friends at 722 told us they were going to throw a gala in his honor we swooned at the opportunity to attend!

Ehret's classic film noir black and white images captured the gigantic characters and wild scene at one of the great fight venues in America. He chronicled the rise of Latino fighters from places like Mexico, Honduras, Panama and Nicaragua. And just as importantly, he covered the colorful scene in and around the Olympic: the Battle Royales, Cage Matches, celebrities, mariachis, luchadores, dwarves, heels, and passionate fans. We seriously could not have had more fun, and if you get a chance go and check it out-the exhibit runs through the end of the month...
